Mongolia: Perhaps best known as the birthplace of Genghis Khan, this country remains a place of nomadic herdsmen and superb horsemen. Because the land is suitable for pasture, it is one of the most thinly populated countries in the world.

Genghis Khan: (1162-1227), sometimes Chinggis Khan, established the Mongol Empire in 1206, the largest empire ruled by a single person. His grandson Kublai Khan conquered China and established Mongol rule (Yuan dynasty 1206–1368)

Relations with China ; Centuries later the Qing dynasty (1644–1912) conquered Mongolia. To reduce the power of traditional clans, the Qing established a hierarchy based on” banners,” which would owe military service.  This map combines Chinese and Mongol elements, especially the unique clear script written top to bottom and right to left.

The area shown on the nineteenth-century map of Mongolia is approximately in this region highlighted in blue.
