The “Galling Peters” is a cylindrical equal area projection that distorts the shapes of all of Africa, South America, and Australia. It only keeps the correct shape of 3 remote land locations south of the Equator (South Island of New Zealand) and Patagonia (Chile & Argentina).
However, in the northern hemisphere it keeps the correct shapes of 44 places including
- 10 US states,
- 4 Canadian provinces,
- 1 Japanese island,
- 3 major cities of Inner Manchuria (Eastern China) and one in Western China,
- 7 provinces of Mongolia, (including the one in map #70
- Kazakhstan,
- Russian Caucasus,
- Kalmykia on the northern end of Caspian Sea,
- Stavropol, capital of Stavropol Krai,
- Krasnodar capital of Krasnodar Krai,
- Simferopol capital of Crimea,
- Romania through Târgu Jiu,
- Serbian autonomous province of Vojvodina,
- the eastern tip of Croatia and a section of the Adriatic Croatia,
- the northern edge of Bosnia and Herzegovina,
- area just south of Belgrade the capital city of Serbia.
- River Po, near Rovigo,
- Voghera, Italy.
- the Cottian Alp sin France,
- Pont-de-l’Isère on the Rhône.
